Community Club is proud to announce the "Domino Effect," an impactful exhibition running from June 17 to 20, 2025 at Plyfa, that delves into the intricate relationship between political dynamics and the superficial narratives propagated by social media. As we approach a quarter-century milestone in the 21st century, this exhibition invites visitors to reflect on how the past two decades have shaped our societal landscape.
"Domino Effect" examines the transition from initial hopes for a secure and prosperous future to the current reality marked by rising authoritarianism, populism, and political instability. The exhibition highlights the transformation of Russia into an authoritarian state and the surge of far-right movements across the West, illustrating the profound impact of these developments on global politics.
Featured artists Charoula Nikolaidou, George Chionis, Michail Parlamas, Myrtmigi, Olga Souvermezoglou, SOTEUR, Spent1, Theano Giannezi, Vaggelis Choursoglou aka Woozy bring their unique perspectives to the exhibition, utilizing a diverse range of media, including painting, sculpture, mixed media, and installation art. Their works explore critical issues such as the Russian war in Ukraine, the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, authoritarian governance, and the rise of radical nationalism, while also addressing the pervasive influence of social media on contemporary life.
In an era where platforms like TikTok and Instagram shape perceptions and narratives, "Domino Effect" serves as a poignant reminder of the duality of our existence. While these platforms connect us globally, they often propagate consumerism and curated versions of happiness, diverting attention from pressing social and political issues.
Join us for the opening reception on June 17 at 19.00, where visitors will have the opportunity to meet the featured artists and engage in discussions surrounding the themes presented in the exhibition. "Domino Effect" promises to be a thought-provoking exploration of the interconnectedness of political realities and the superficialities of modern life.
The exhibition opening evening is supported by Katogi Averoff winery house. Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a selection of fine wines from this esteemed winery, enhancing the evening’s celebration of art.
